Class A: Wednesday 5:30-7:00pm ET 10 Weeks, 10 Classes;
Class B: Thursday 3:30 – 5:00pm ET 10 Weeks, 10 Classes
This fun and exciting Theatre Arts class is for all levels of experience. We will play engaging, imaginative games, act out scenes, create plays together based on folktales, fairy tales, fables and mythology. Materials will include classic scripts, contemporary monologues and scenes, and creative dramatic improvisation. Students will be exposed to a basic introduction of professional theatre exercises which promote confidence and bolster imagination. Each exercise is designed to teach a specific skill, but students have so much fun they often do not realize how much they are learning! We work on building a respectful community in a safe, supportive and fun atmosphere, creating warm friendships and enthusiasm. Students will be taught voice and diction exercises, learn deep, meditative breathing, relaxation techniques, character development and how objectives and behavior shape acting choices. Students are encouraged to participate, but without pressure to perform. Each can volunteer and proceed at their own individual pace. Theatre arts teaches collaboration skills and positive group dynamics, working together as a team to create every performance exercise. Using the tools of voice, body and imagination, students learn to create entertainment which showcases their natural talents and improves observation and concentration skills. The class will culminate in a virtual informal performance of stories for their friends and family. Since the material changes each semester, students often return to this class again and again.
